What needed solving
An extra or missing ring can force an assembly operator to recheck a piston batch. Thin, closely stacked rings are difficult to count consistently by hand.
How Qualitas solved it
Qualitas combined a ring-holding jig, camera and controlled lighting with counting software and an operator interface. The selected ring model and expected quantity determine the batch check.
The ring stack and its visible edges
From a loaded stack to a packing decision
| Step | What happens |
|---|---|
| Load and select | Place the rings on the jig, select the ring model and enter the expected bundle count. |
| Capture and count | Trigger the camera. Controlled lighting reveals the ring edges for image-based counting. |
| Verify and record | The interface retrieves the count and compares it with the expected quantity. Matching batches show PASS; mismatches show FAIL. |
Sherlock vision software performs model-specific counting, with results displayed in a custom Qualitas interface. The selected model and expected count support inspection traceability.
See the counting workflow
Public Qualitas footage shows camera-and-light capture, a displayed count and a FAIL result when the count does not match the required set.
Value at the packing checkpoint
- A repeatable count check at the point where a ring bundle is prepared.
- An explicit mismatch result before the batch reaches packing.
- Model-specific recipes and an operator interface suited to the counting workflow.
Share ring thickness, diameter, finish, stack height and required bundle count. We can assess the fixture, lighting and counting approach on your actual samples.
