STEEL · IMAGE ACQUISITION

High-Speed Image Acquisition for Red-Hot Steel Strips

Camera, lighting, image capture and server transfer for an integrated steel manufacturer in India. Clear surface images from a red-hot production line, ready for the customer’s downstream analysis.

The challenge

What needed solving

The moving strip emitted intense radiation. The customer needed usable surface images despite the heat, movement and distance from the camera.

The solution

How Qualitas solved it

Qualitas delivered a line-scan acquisition setup with high-intensity lighting, a frame grabber and an industrial computer. Captured images were transferred to the customer’s server.

The acquisition hardware

  • An 8K line-scan camera, operated with binning, captured successive lines across the moving strip.
  • High-intensity line lighting made surface detail visible despite radiation from the hot steel.
  • The frame grabber and industrial computer assembled image lines and transferred the images to the customer’s server.

From a glowing strip to a surface image

The completed installation enabled customer image collection for downstream processing. Qualitas delivered the acquisition layer; defect detection and classification were outside our scope.
